Empieza a aplicarse en la mayoría
de establecimientos la subida del IVA

Northumberlandia: A face appears in
the landscape

This near Cramlington,
Northumbria is the largest open cast mine in the country and its expected to
yield some 5.5 million tons of coal. And this is Northumberlandia
created from the left over’s of the mine and carved here by the men who mine
the coal. It’s the largest replica of a
human body ever seen on the planet, a reclining female form over a quarter of a
mile long. When the country park opens a
year from now there will be 4 miles of paths all over this figure with a number
of lakes around its base. There are things
being revealed about the project that even us the project team didn’t realize
in particular the spectacular views you can enjoy from the high points on it
and the joy of exploring Northumberlandia by walking on these different paths
and taking a different route every time you come here so we think it’s going to
be a really special place for people to come and enjoy.

Ridly, Blagdon Estates are equally enthusiastic.
We believe it will
draw people to Northumberland and we believe it will be a great facility for
the local people to enjoy be it walking or just picnicking and for the estates
point of view to be able to leave a legacy like this really is quite a special
occasion.

the undulating landscape around her. Her
sheer size has surpassed even the expectations of the man brought in to design
her celebrated landscape artist Charles Jenks.
Its much bigger than I ever thought and if you put
anything in a big sky like this it disappears, you have to make a really bold
gesture and to accentuate, you know exaggerate the lips for instance, we are all attracted to the
face as we have more neurons to identify other people than any other parts of
our brain so it is the face that attracts you.
So what do local people think of their new
neighbour?
I like it but I think for people who did not know
anything it would not have any idea what it was, would they, unless you knew
about her because it looks like a lump of stones doesn’t it.
Well I have just heard that you can see it from the
air that it is a lady lying down with, apparently no clothes on.
I cannot think that I would go and see it.
It looks like the angel of the north doesn’t it
that people will talk about and come and have a look.
We didn’t like the angel (Angel of the North) when
it first went up did we and now it’s part of the north east.
The north latest and biggest work of public art has
done something to improve the image of open cast mining and she will be around
for many generations to come.
